Why do we talk about turf types? What are the basics of lawn maintenance?<\/p>\n<h2>What is turf?<\/h2>\n<p>Turf is planted with fine, short grass. The special feature of this type of grass is that it is carefully selected: it contains mostly true grasses. There are more than 12,000 types of grass. Lawn is another word we use for this.<\/p>\n<h2>Why are there different types of turf ?<\/h2>\n<p>The different types of turf are the result of a selection of grasses. Why? The first consideration is to obtain dense and lasting coverage. Next, with a view to improving the quality of the grasses \u2013 mainly their resistance to trampling &#8211; the varieties have become increasingly specific. Thanks to these careful selections, we can obtain hard-wearing and attractive lawns. The choice of turf will be determined by its use:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ornamental applications<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Leisure applications (private)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Sporting applications<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A special mixture of grasses is created for each of these applications. It can also vary according to region and climate. To find out more information about turf grass varieties, refer to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gnis.fr\/files\/gazons.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the official French catalogue<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Essential lawn maintenance tips?<\/h2>\n<p>After an appropriate choice of lawn type, all you need to do is maintain it. Child&#8217;s play! Here are the essential tips for a perfect lawn:<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"title-number\">1<\/span>An aerated lawn<\/h3>\n<p>Aeration provides better water infiltration into the soil and oxygenation of the roots. Better growth will be the result! How do you know if your lawn needs to be aerated? Test your lawn by pushing a 10 cm pencil into it. If you need to struggle to push it in, your lawn might be too compact. There are manual aerators and mechanical aerators to perform decompaction. It is recommended that you aerate once or twice a year, in the spring and\/or autumn.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"title-number\">2<\/span>Correct mowing height<\/h3>\n<p>The mowing height varies according to the terrain. A private lawn does not require the same mowing height as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.belrobotics.com\/ga\/blog\/choose-a-robot\/golf-ball-collector-why-choose-a-robot\/\">a golf green<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.belrobotics.com\/ga\/blog\/maintain\/football-pitch-maintenance-the-robot-revolution\/\">a football pitch!<\/a>! An ideal height for a private lawn is around 3 to 5 cm.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"title-number\">3<\/span>Regular mowing<\/h3>\n<p>It&#8217;s a well-known fact: regular mowing gives great results. On the other hand, it is hard to restore grass that has not been maintained.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"title-number\">4<\/span>Nourished and irrigated grass<\/h3>\n<p>In addition to frequent mowing, the lawn must be nourished and it is important for it to maintain an adequate level of moisture. If not, the lawn could turn yellow and start thinning.<\/p>\n<p>A practical and effective solution to take care of these tasks? Mulching! But be aware that the mulching technique is often misunderstood. It leaves room for too many interpretations, and therefore also disappointments!
